Working with our new friend Amanda. She is our Physical Therapist.
This is pretty fun!
We had our first physical therapy appointment today and it went so well. In the NICU 28weekers and earlier automatically get referred to PT. Older babies are referred on an "as needed" basis. Our 29 weekers were not given a referral because they didn't feel they needed it but I talked to my ped and he made the referral just to give me peace of mind. They would not have been assessed again until 6 months adjusted (9 months old for our girls) and I just thought that sounded so late when we could catch potential problems earlier. My ped agreed...love that doctor!Yesterday was just an initial screening/assessment. The physical therapist said she was very impressed with the girls. They are 16 weeks...5 weeks adjusted and she said they are performing more like 8 weeks adjusted. They are cooing, tracking, recognize mama, pushing up and doing mock crawling. She said all of these things are very good (guess that tummy time at home is paying off!!!). She will see the girls once a month for these next 6 months. She gave me lots of exercises to do with them. One of the best things is she totally incorporated Kai in to all the activities. Kai loved the clinic and all the toys...especially the trampoline. She is upset that we don't go back for a month lol...KIDS! So...our PT actually suggested tummy sleep. This is of course not for overnight...but instead while an adult is awake and in the room to watch them. Since the girls are now strong enough to push up and clear their airways we are going to try to have them on their tummies as much as possible.
